JTS User	Masthead kite and no runners? - 2006/07/27 06:14 Im sure Marstrom have done their calcualtions, but in your video there seems to be a lot of deflection in the top of the rig (above the shrouds) with the masthead kite up. Is there any possibilty of fitting some runners to avoid this scary situation? Loving the whole project and can't wait to see it over in the UK at some point.

hunt Moderator	Re:Masthead kite and no runners? - 2006/07/27 06:38 JTS- I shared your reaction - that is why we sent Eli down to leeward (he got soaked earlier in that run when we were in waves). Marstrom is confident in their calculations, and have said the deflection is expected. but we are considering adding a bit of stifness to the topmast. Overall, I think we are sailing the boat hard and loading up perhaps more than expected. we will be puttting load-cells on critical spots to get empirical data before starting the first production batch this fall. I want to avoid the hassle of runners - we are really trying to keep this simple and clean.
